Clothes need settings to be special and settings need outfits to be remembered. Whenever I buy something new, I make up a story of where I see myself wearing the piece, this time the story happened to be more perfect than anything I could have imagined.

It was Sunday night in Gloucester Massachusetts, the sunset was perfect, and the ocean breeze made it easy to be grateful. I was wearing Madewell overalls, a J. Crew Sailor top, and the item of desire, (the sold out everywhere), black and white canvas Chanel espadrilles. I’m not sure I had a story for these babies yet; they were so special their showcase had to be perfect. When I got dressed that night I thought to myself “f*ck It, I’ll wear them here, and then set up an occasion in NYC to break them out for real.” The Madfish is a bar located literally on top of the water in a small bay, and on Sunday nights they have a live Reggae band.  A newly minted PR Agent, a physicist, a vet tech, and myself, made our way to the summer hangout. I am nothing like my best friends at all, and that is why we have all been friends for twenty plus years. They get me in ways nobody in NYC would even be able to start, and it’s so refreshing to talk about things that don’t involve the small social circle that is fashion and PR in NYC. We got to the bar, had a few tequila shots, and danced with the lifeguards that used to be cute when we were 16, (they were never cute, it’s a small town, EW), and literally had the most amazing night on the water, in the best of company. I had a moment on the dance floor when I looked down and the tip of my shoe was scuffed from the spinning and dipping, and I thought to myself “that’s what Chanel is for, to be worn and loved.” Every time now I look down at my shoes I can’t help but smile, they symbolize the perfect summer night.

Thoughts On Boys & Girls

For most of us ladies, “Yo bitch, meet me in the stew,” sounds like a foreign language or sorts, or some offensive way of asking to meet and make soup! However, to my boyfriend, and his other male companions, this translates into, “Hey, let’s meet at the studio to work on music.” #WTF. I knew that men and woman had some serious differences, but being in what now is considered a long-term relationship, the differences become more and more clear by every passing day. It’s more than a language barrier; it’s the true fact that men and woman are wired a completely different way.

White Hot Summer

Café Select, (a small downtown coffee haunt for the highly fashionable), proves to be some of the city’s best people watching on a Sunday afternoon. I make a point to go weekly and spy on woman who pass by in every runway trend thinkable, but this particular Sunday, over a double espresso and British Vogue, a woman in a full white ensemble with a matte orange lip glided by and literally blew me away. She was so fresh, effortlessly chic, and looked to be so comfortable in her oversized white pants, and matching white tee. There’s something so captivating about an outfit that both looks both functional and fashionable; that’s the ultimate goal inset it?

In the city where fashion trends arguably move faster than no other place on earth, it’s easy to get overwhelmed with the endless amount of options, but two trends this summer that have proven to be eye catching for all the right reasons are full summer whites and an orange lip. Worn together or separately, they are guaranteed to turn heads for the right reasons.

All White is a perfect trend for woman of all ages. It’s easy to mix and match the whites you already own for a fresh new look on summer dressing. For younger girls this can mean a cute pair of white cutoffs paired with a white tee, and Chuck Taylor’s, versus for a more mature woman, this could translate into a pair boyfriend jeans, and a white boat neck top. There really are no limits to this trend, and there is something truly special about seeing a woman flawlessly pull it off. Use footwear as your avenue for expression, and spice up an all white ensemble with colorful fun summer kicks.

Orange is The New Black means more these days than just being a new television sensation, it speaks to the importance of the color itself! Fashion first saw the perfect orange lip walking down the Prabaul Gurung Spring 2014 runway, and this moment literally redefined our thoughts on the color from an outlandish lip option to something totally flattering and wearable. I, along with a lot of other people, was under the impression that orange was only wearable for a very particular skin tone. After seeing all the shades that have been produced, this is a trend that literally anyone can follow and look amazing in! This summer let’s shy away from the classic red lip and redefine our views on color by picking out the perfect orange shade. Hope to see you turning heads yourself Sundays at Café Select!

On My Monday Mind: Get You're SH*T Together

I stood in INA Nolita with the long metallic, drop-crotch, Phillip Lim shorts in hand, thinking of all the scenarios they would be perfect. I first imagined a chic West Village dinner with the girls, to then a downtown work meeting paired with a blazer, “god they are good,” I thought to myself. However, this is the fairytale part of my princess life, the reality part, (sitting in a shopaholics meeting), is I actually would rather eat apples and brown rice for a week IN my shorts, then have endless food money and no shorts. I’m talking about an “It Girls” life mission to stay fresh and chic, AND fed at the same time, because let’s be honest, it’s hard in a city where shopping temptation is endless, and fashion jobs are basically slave labor wages. So, I have come up with a personal plan to have what I want in both worlds. The answer: Become a #GirlBoss, seriously get this book it’s amazing, and has such relevant advice for any chica starting out . I personally skipped the beginning of life sob story, chapters 1-3, and got to the relevant part, making the mula.

Kerrin of CatiD shares her surf spray journey! Check it out and be sure to visit CatiD.net for what it means to be "cool and thoughtful."

"When your best friend also happens to be a beauty editor, magical things can happen during a trip to sephora. claire told me i needed surf spray, and when it comes to these things, just nod and say yes, because eleven times out of ten, she's right. three weeks and almost a whole mini bottle later, and my life i mean my hair is transformed.

I recently imparted this wisdom on my darling cousin kaileigh, and it went something like this:

spray in wet hair, braid lots, sleep, wake up (flawless), unbraid, spray more surf at roots, i woke up like this.

Karlie

Dear Karlie Kloss,

I'm Sick of you're face...

I respect that fact that you are one of the most beautiful girls in the world that you have “limbs that could kick Jesus,” and you even make nice jeans. However, I’m writing to inform you I’m really sick of seeing you’re face,EVERYWHERE. Each month I get a new Vogue hoping to see the newfound talent that they deem worthy of the editorial pages, but it’s always YOU. And I feel you; you’re like a fine wine, gets better with age …but what’s wine without cheese sometimes?  A little variation, you know? You cant answer that question because it was very clear to me after I saw your nude spread in Vogue Italia, you have probably never tasted cheese. Maybe this is more a profession of my love for you and your discipline; I like cheese, a lot. You probably don’t remember that time we met. You were strutting through Nolita like the Amazon princess you are, casual, alone, I said hi and walked by, it was hugely relevant. What I'm saying Karlie, is I’m a fan of yours, always will be, but right now can you stick to making “Karlie’s Kookies” somewhere dark and press less, and let someone else get an editorial? That is all, stay tall!

P.S. If you ever find yourself in a bookstore, please pick up a copy of my memoir titled; “I Put Whip Cream On Someone & They Weren’t Mad.”

Best Regards, Claire.
