The Fashion Diary: Part 1

Tales of Fashion Week A/W14

"It seems fashion week is here. I say it seems as I’m in full denial of thinking about the event; 1, too much excitement, and 2, the guaranteed “what do I wear to the shows” morning of migraine panic attacks. This year there are a few things I plan on doing differently. Firstly, instead of dressing up, I plan on channeling this lost homeless person look. It starts with tousled just woke up didn’t do anything Afro hair, think black Alexa Chung. Then I proceed in wearing nothing that touches my body at all; Hanes tee, harem pants, and ends with one expensive thing. I’m really relying on that one expensive thing to throw everyone off. I want people to think that I just accidently wandered into the tents from a shelter. Then they catch my Miu Miu sunnies hanging off a stained tee, and just don’t know what to think. There’s nothing I enjoy more than a confused P.R. girl wondering who and how. Another thing that I will do differently this year is I will smell like food; I will smell like that because I will have just eaten. I will be full in Bryant Park! I repeat I will be full in BRYANT PARK! This is a change as I make my transition from the runways to the audience. I can’t tell you how excited I am to have a nice sandwich before I enter the tent, hell, I might even bring snacks! Snacks also double as ammo when a model messes up, something as innocent as goldfish can be easily whipped onto the catwalk to reprimand unwarranted mistakes, “bad model, bad model.” Think Elie Saabe Couture Show tumble in Paris this season, which merits a tossed lunchbox. Tres tragic for her, here’s the link if you missed the stumble  #sorrynotsorry

Wildfox Sweatshirt I Need A Drink  NYFW FW 2014 collection

Day 1 Kicked off with the Lisa Perry Presentation at her storefront on Madison Ave. Two rows of benches framed the in store runway and makeshift press pit. Models strutted out in pairs of 4, well, all models but one, who looked like she’s was literally afraid to walk a normal pace, so slowly inched her way down the short catwalk. The crowd consisted of mostly middle-aged Upper East Side housewife’s, so I was expecting the clothing to follow suite with the blandness of the audience. I was pleasantly surprised when Lisa Perry’s first look was strong structured fabric, feminine detail, and a mixture of metallic boxy shapes. I’m so down with the concept of sexiness that has nothing to do with clothing being at all fitted. Her color palette was a range of black and whites, greens, and silver metallic that carried through from the short frock dresses, to the strapless black boxy show stopping last look. The dress was literally perfect, although, anything looks good on a size 0 5 foot 10’ model, I'm not so sure how much I would love the clothes for the older age group of woman that can actually afford them.

I spent my time in between these shows eating stuff, drinking stuff, eating more stuff.

Pretty In Pink Never Looked So Pretty

I'm still so in love with the pastel pink trend that Carvan coined last season! I hate to be a sheep, but I honestly can't get enough of this color and beyond loved seeing it whilst attending NYFW FW14 shows! Check out my fav street style snaps! xxx

Lets Get MINIMAL

In a frantic clutter-attack today, I decided to get rid of everything in my closet I did not love enough to hang on my wall and look at forever. I don't actually plan on displaying my coveted clothes on my studio walls, however I am passionate about buying less and loving what I own. In practicing what I preach, today happened.  Buffalo Exchange on 26th street in Chelsea was ecstatic, and I'm sure anyone else who comes and sifts through the racks will be just as excited to see half of my life there. In all seriousness, it's a tad bittersweet, the empty hangers are a bit nostalgic, but I'm not sure I needed a studded camo LF sweater, or the teal patent Victor&Rolf flats I bought at Barney's when I was 14. Looking into my almost bare closet today I laughed to myself, thinking I'm now going to be a little more French. What I mean by that, is having fewer things of nicer quality, non-trendy, classic pieces. After selling all my clothes, I replaced the old with a few new timeless pieces that speak to this new classic minimal chic vibe I'm trying to achieve from my closet. Overall what I'm sayin' is; sell stuff you don't wear, buy things you love, and remember minimalism. xxx

A Chung Obsession

So I must admit I’m in the midst of a minor obsession with Alexa Chung. I'm Probably late on the uptake, seeing as she’s been featured everywhere for years now, but I had always labeled her as annoying, UNTIL, I got her recent book IT. It’s witty, chic, and filled with amazing film images, taken by Alexa.  I really like when you can get a feel for a persons esthetic through their work, her book does exactly that. From the perfect cat eye, to her almost flawless execution of tomboy meets 12-year-old girl ensembles, it stays true to a very specific style that has made her so coveted. Chung spoke to Vogue.com about the launch of her own brand, another exciting thing coming in 2014. It will be interesting to see how the star translates to a wider audience in the commercial fashion arena. For now however, getting a piece of Alexa Chung’s fashion can be done by snagging something from her makeup collaboration with the London brand Eyeko.
