Fashion Fabulosity; Is It THAT Serious?

“And now, I’m just trying to change the world, one sequin at a time.”
― Lady Gaga

I found myself laughing a lot during fashion week. Not because the clothes were funny (well, some were), but more because everybody else was so damn serious. How can you be serious in colorfully died furs and circus glasses, watching sticks strut down runways? Fashion for most that attend the shows is an art form. The display of wearable garments as artistic constructions  of structure, fabric, color that, in their essence, are used to clothe us in beautiful ways. It can be an outlet for silent self-expression...I get it, I really I do. My question is can we all just laugh a little more? It's really not thatttttt serious. So here are a few things I thought were a tad comical in all their fabulosity xxx

Jerry Paper, The Melancholy Synth Master

Lucas Nathan, the self-described host body of musician Jerry Paper, channels his host to produce otherworldly, often melancholy synth music. One might think that overusing pitch shifters in songs about lost love and an elusive sense of self would be unsettling, damn near approaching disturbing. Mr. Paper proves otherwise. His technique shapes the sounds of lethargic waves that seduce the listener into a contemplative, tropical mood where loneliness feels familiar, tepid, even right. He is a pop-star for weirdos, or possibly vice versa. The colorful persona and uniquely crafted synthesized noises tend to mask pervasive, lyrically thematic connections to the strongest human desires: wanting to have control of your emotions, wanting to feel wanted, and wanting things to have meaning. Then again, that may be the entire point of Jerry Paper, International Man of Misery.

Upcoming shows include a March 12th performance at Death By Audio and a March 25th performance at Silent Barn.

Dear Karlie Kloss, I'm Sick of Your Face

Dear Karlie Kloss,

I respect that fact that you are one of the most beautiful girls in the world, that you have “limbs that could kick Jesus,” and you even make nice jeans. However, I’m writing to inform you I’m really sick of seeing you’re face, EVERYWHERE. Each month I get a new Vogue hoping to see the newfound talent that they deem worthy of the editorial pages, but it’s always YOU. And I feel you; you’re like a fine wine, gets better with age …but what’s wine without cheese sometimes?  A little variation, you know? You can’t answer that question because it was very clear to me after I saw your nude spread in Vogue Italia, you have probably never tasted cheese. Maybe this is more a profession of my love for you and your discipline; I like cheese, a lot.

You probably don’t remember that time we met. You were strutting through Nolita like the Amazon princess you are; casual, alone, I said “hi” and walked by; it was hugely relevant. What I'm saying Karlie, is I’m a fan of yours, always will be, but right now can you stick to making “Karlie’s Kookies” somewhere dark and pressless, and let someone else get an editorial? That is all, stay tall!

Best Regards,

Claire
